SOS Children’s Villages
August 2026, Serbia
SOS Children’s Villages (SOS Dečija sela) is a renowned global humanitarian organization operating in over 130 countries and territories to ensure that every child grows up in a safe, loving, and stable family environment. Operating dynamically across Serbia, the foundation coordinates its nationwide impact from its headquarters in Belgrade, while driving local care through the SOS Children's Village Kraljevo and vital community-based Family Strengthening Centers in Belgrade, Obrenovac, and Niš. Working closely with regional institutional partners like the regional state Center for Family Placement in Kragujevac, their programs focus heavily on prevention, rehabilitation, and long-term community support. This includes providing holistic sanctuary for single or divorced mothers facing extreme adversity, enabling them to secure safe housing and emotional stability, and complete their higher education or job training while keeping their children protected. Furthermore, when a family experiences severe instability, the foundation temporarily steps in to provide a secure environment for the children while simultaneously working to empower, train, and rehabilitate the parents. Their ultimate goal is to facilitate safe and lasting family reunifications once the household is strong enough to thrive independently. To ensure complete social inclusion, the organization also runs dedicated youth integration centers and specialized day-care drop-in programs aimed at resocializing and supporting youth who struggle with behavioral challenges.
